MTS Belarus plans 50% capacity increase on 4G network

09/04/2019

According to TeleGeography Belarusian mobile network operator (MNO) MTS Belarus has revealed that, working in partnership with the country’s national mobile infrastructure provider Belarusian Cloud Technologies (beCloud), it plans to increase LTE network capacity by up to 50% by September 2019.

The MNO’s press release noted that the capacity expansion would necessitate the deployment of around 800 new 4G LTE base transceiver stations (BTS) in major cities and regional centres across the Republic. As part of the plan, the two companies aim to switch on advanced mobile internet services to coincide with the start of the European Games, which are being held in Belarus from 21 June to 30 June. The upgrade works will also include 4G densification in the capital, Minsk. Currently, MTS Belarus’ 4G service is supported by more than 1,600 BTS countrywide, operating at 1800MHz and 2600MHz, and available to over 63% of Belarusians, including 100% of the country’s urban population.
