05/11/2018

According to BelTA Belarus is interested in elaborating efficient approaches on a global scale to protect children from cybercrime, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei said as he met with Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary General on Violence against Children Marta Santos Pais on 2 November.

Vladimir Makei informed the special representative about Belarus' priorities in protecting children and Belarus' initiatives at the UN to combat violence. The Belarusian foreign minister emphasized that Belarus seeks efficient global action to protect children from cybercrime. “In this context Belarus has plans to submit a new resolution to the United Nations making an emphasis on public-private partnership and involvement of a broad range of stakeholders in efforts to prevent cybercrime against children. These stakeholders include not only law enforcement agencies, but also representatives of the academic community, business, civil society, as well as teachers and parents,” the press service noted. Marta Santos Pais spoke highly of Belarus' initiatives. She noted that she is ready to provide assistance in materializing them. During her first visit to Belarus on 1 November she took part in a roundtable session “Combating cybercrime against children: the world's best practices”.
