08/09/2018

According to TeleGeography National infrastructure provider Belarusian Cloud Technologies (beCloud) says it has increased the number of base transceiver stations (BTS) in its network by a third since May 2018, from 1,000 to 1,500.

As previously reported by CommsUpdate the 1,000th base station was built near the village of Bykachino, in the Sino-Belarusian industrial park three months ago, since when it has expanded its footprint to take in the towns/cities of Osipovichi, Zelva, Bragin, Bolshevik, Semkovo and Zatseni. As part of the latest expansion drive, beCloud added a further 61 BTS in Minsk over the summer and strengthened its presence in other major cities with the deployment of 91 BTS in Grodno, Vitebsk, Brest and Mogilev – including ten new base stations in Borisov. In total, beCloud – which is tasked with deploying Belarus’ national 4G infrastructure on behalf of the country’s incumbent cellcos – now serves more than 170 towns/cities across the Republic, having passed 100 towns/cities covered by LTE by end-2017. The company notes that its dual-band 1800MHz/2600MHz network incorporates four-component carrier aggregation (4CC) to deliver average data transfer rates of at least 30Mbps.
