Information technologies expected to make Belarusian laws more effective

According to BelTA informatization helps make the national legislation more effective. The relevant statement was made by Deputy Head of the Belarus President Administration Valery Mitskevich as the sixth international applied science conference Information Technologies and Law (Legal Informatization 2018) opened on 17 May.

Valery Mitskevich said: “Informatization allows finding new ways to handle applied problems in legal affairs. It represents a good impulse for improving lawmaking and law enforcement practices. It helps improve the effectiveness of the national legislation. In turn, science tackles problems, which are as important, such as the place of law in an information society and its transformation under the influence of information technologies.” The official noted that Belarus recognizes the huge potential that lies within information technologies and embraces these technologies, including in legal affairs, as a state policy. “Comprehensive solutions for delivering up-to-date legal information by digital means to individuals and corporations have been implemented in Belarus. Apart from that, the lawmaking process is being automated. Regulatory acts are now officially published by digital means. Internet solutions for thoroughly discussing legal acts and providing legal assistance have been created. New algorithms and ways to handle legal tasks are designed to raise the legal awareness and enhance the legal culture. These are only some of the innovative projects of importance for the society,” stated the deputy head of the Belarus President Administration. Valery Mitskevich stressed that the National Center of Legal Information (NCLI) is the leader and an expert in introducing information technologies into legal interaction processes. The sixth international applied science conference Information Technologies and Law (Legal Informatization 2018) is taking place at the National Library of Belarus. Taking part in the event are representatives of government agencies and organizations from Belarus and other countries, international organizations, public associations, researchers, teachers and professors of educational institutions, post-graduate students, specialists in the sphere of legal profession and informatization, librarianship. Participants of the conference are expected to discuss topical aspects of the introduction of information technologies in Belarus and abroad, including the introduction of information technologies with regard to legal information, court work, lawyer and notary work, and the execution of court verdicts. Belarusian and foreign experience of giving citizens access to legal information is being discussed. The event has been organized by the National Center of Legal Information of Belarus, the Supreme Court, the Justice Ministry, the Belarusian National Bar Association, the Belarusian Notary Chamber, and the National Library of Belarus.
