ISP Atlant Telecom reportedly up for sale

18/05/2016

According to TeleGeography belarusian broadband ISP Atlant Telecom, owned by SMH via a private equity fund managed by Bison Capital and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), could soon be sold, writes 42.TUT.BY, citing a source familiar with the situation.

Negotiations for the sale of the country’s largest privately owned ISP are currently underway, although there is disagreement on who the buyer is. One source suggests that the frontrunner is local cellco Mobile Digital Communications (velcom), although a separate source said that whilst talks between the two had indeed taken place, the negotiations ended without agreement. velcom’s press office declined to confirm whether or not talks had been held, saying only that it was ‘considering various possibilities for business development, including the fixed internet market’.

Atlant Telecom was established in 2000 and by August 2015 (latest official data) had more than 190,000 broadband internet subscribers with a network that covered all regional centres of the Republic. It provides high speed internet access using Ethernet and ADSL technology, as well as a range of services, including cable and digital television (IPTV), cloud video monitoring, design, construction and maintenance of local area networks, the provision of social public Wi-Fi networks, licensed antivirus protection and more.
