beCloud to test LTE-A

11/10/2013

According to TeleGeography start-up operator Belarusian Cloud Technologies (beCloud), in partnership with domestic mobile operator MTS Belarus, has launched a 4G test zone for Long Term Evolution-Advanced (LTE-A) technology, IT.TUT.BY reports.

From today, beCloud will begin tests of LTE-A in the capital Minsk using a network of four base transceiver stations (BTS) supplied by Huawei. The firm says that the trials will focus on the sharing of equipment for two or more operators, setting up and optimising the 4G network, and on testing maximum data rates.

According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, on 12 August this year the Ministry of Communications and Informatisation (MoCI) issued a 15-year licence to beCloud to operate in the country’s communications market. The licence covers rights to use the radio frequencies 1710MHz-1730MHz/1805MHz-1825MHz (20MHz) and 2530MHz-2565MHz/2650MHz-2685MHz (35MHz) for the deployment of an LTE network. The newcomer is said to be 51% owned by domestic group Operative Analytical Center, itself operating under the President of Belarus’ national centre of traffic exchange, and including Russian businessman Konstantin Nikolaev as a key participant in the venture.
