NATO computerizes Belarusian regions

NATO Science Committee allocates USD 200 000 to fund joint Belarusian -German initiative to develop information communication networks in 5 regional centers of Belarus - Grodno, Gomel, Brest, Vitebsk and Mogilev. Belarusian National Center of Information Resources and Technologies and Mannheim University will create and equip regional network units to provide Internet access for scientific, educational, medical institutions and for a number of non-governmental organizations. The network is to be developed on the basis of BASNET (Belarusian Academy of Sciences network). The joint project will also help to develop new initiatives in e-learning, e-commerce, telemedicine, e-publishing. It is also planned to launch regional communication systems in.
